The Korean Neurological Association (KNA)

The Korean Neurological Association (KNA), founded in 1981, is the official academic society representing neurologists in Korea. Since its first annual meeting in 1982, which had 206 participants, the KNA has experienced substantial growth, boasting 2,607 members by 2025, comprising board-certified neurologists and residents in training. The KNA plays a central role in the education and training of neurology. The KNA established the Korean Board of Neurology in 1983 and has since managed the certification of all neurologists in Korea.

The KNA Releases Two Official Journals

The Journal of Clinical Neurology (JCN) serves as the official English-language publication for the Korean Neurological Association. JCN is an open-access journal that undergoes peer review and is published every two months. JCN seeks to promote innovative research from across the globe, encompassing both clinical and translational studies for physicians and researchers in the field of neurology.

The Journal of the Korean Neurological Association (JKNA) serves as the official publication of the Korean Neurological Association (KNA). JKNA, launched in June 1983 (Volume 1, Issue 1), is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published quarterly in February, May, August, and November, and it accepts manuscripts in both Korean and English. The official abbreviation of the journal is J Korean Neurol Assoc. Since its establishment , JKNA has functioned as a peer-reviewed, open-access journal. JKNA has now been indexed and tracked by KoreaMed, KoreaMed Synapse, KoMCI, CrossRef, and Google Scholar.

The KNA demonstrates its dedication to academic progress by actively supporting 26 affiliated subspecialty societies that span a diverse range of neurological fields. Additionally, it organizes two national scientific meetings each year, fostering academic engagement among trainees and specialists at the same time.

The KNA has played a significant role in promoting regional collaboration by hosting the 9th Asian and Oceanian Congress of Neurology (AOCN) in 1995 and the 16th AOCN in Seoul in 2018. The KNA is in the process of  preparing to host the 27th World Congress of Neurology (WCN) in Seoul in October 2025, exhibiting  the association’s expanding global leadership and dedication  to the advancement of  neurological sciences.
